哈该书 2:9：“这殿后来的荣耀必大过先前的荣耀。这是万军之耶和华说的。我必在这地方赐平安。”

哈该书2:1提到的七月二十一日，按照犹太历法是提斯利月（Tishri）21日，恰好是住棚节（Sukkot）的最后一天。住棚节是犹太人一年中最重要的节日之一，纪念神如何在以色列人漂流于旷野时保护和供应他们。这个节日通常持续七天，提斯利月21日是节期的第七天，也称为“最后大日”。

在这一天，犹太人会住在临时的棚子里（sukkot），象征他们祖先在旷野中依赖神的保护和供应。这一天象征着与神同住、丰收和祝福，因此具有重要的象征意义。通过哈该先知，神在住棚节的最后一天传达了一个信息，呼吁百姓重建圣殿，表明祂希望与祂的子民同在，并祝福他们。

耶稣在住棚节的最后一天也发出了邀请，这可以在约翰福音7:37-38中找到：“节期的最后一天，就是最隆重的一天，耶稣站着高声说：‘人若渴了，可以到我这里来喝。信我的人，就如经上所说：从他腹中要流出活水的江河。’”

当耶稣提到“信我的人，就如经上所说，从他腹中要流出活水的江河”时，祂在邀请人相信祂，借着祂，人们可以得到圣灵的充满。这一“活水的江河”象征着神赐予信徒的丰盛生命与祝福，带来内在的更新、满足和属灵的滋养。

因此，耶稣在住棚节最后一天的邀请与节日的背景密切相关。祂不仅回应了犹太人对物质丰收的祈求，更提供了超越物质的、属灵的活水——圣灵的同在和祝福。通过这邀请，耶稣表明自己是神救赎计划的核心，是人类一切需要的终极源头。

Haggai 2:9: “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place, I will give peace.”

Haggai 2:1 mentions the twenty-first day of the seventh month, which in the Jewish calendar is Tishri 21, coinciding with the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). Sukkot is one of the most important Jewish festivals, commemorating how God protected and provided for the Israelites during their wandering in the wilderness. This festival usually lasts for seven days, with Tishri 21 being the seventh day, also known as the “Great Day.”

On this day, Jewish people dwell in temporary booths (sukkot), symbolizing their ancestors’ reliance on God’s protection and provision in the wilderness. This day represents living with God, harvest, and blessings, thus carrying significant symbolism. Through the prophet Haggai, God conveyed a message on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles, calling the people to rebuild the temple, indicating His desire to be present with His people and bless them.

Jesus also made an invitation on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles, which can be found in John 7:37-38: “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

The last day of the Feast of Tabernacles, known as the “Great Day,” is the most significant moment of the festival. This feast commemorates the Israelites’ wandering in the wilderness and God’s provision, particularly the miraculous water supply He provided them in the desert. On this final day of the festival, Jewish tradition includes a ceremony called the “Water Libation,” symbolizing God’s provision of water in the wilderness and prayers for abundant rain and harvest in the coming year.

In this context, Jesus stood up and made His invitation: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” He compared Himself to the everlasting living water, indicating that He is the true source for all who are thirsty. This living water refers not only to physical water but to the Holy Spirit and the life of God, capable of satisfying people’s inner thirst and spiritual needs.

When Jesus mentions, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water,” He is inviting people to believe in Him, through whom they can receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit. This “river of living water” symbolizes the abundant life and blessings that God grants to believers, bringing inner renewal, satisfaction, and spiritual nourishment.

Thus, Jesus’ invitation on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles is closely related to the festival’s context. He not only responds to the Jewish people’s prayers for physical abundance but also offers spiritual living water that transcends the material—the presence and blessings of the Holy Spirit. Through this invitation, Jesus reveals Himself as the core of God’s redemptive plan and the ultimate source for all human needs.
