Beautiful Lies Lull People to Sleep, but Truth Brings Salvation

March 19, 2025

Scripture:

Micah 3:5 (NIV)
“This is what the Lord says: ’As for the prophets who lead my people astray, they proclaim “peace” if they have something to eat, but prepare to wage war against anyone who refuses to feed them.’”

Story:

In a kingdom surrounded by towering mountains, King Ease had grown up in wealth and comfort, never knowing war or hardship. What he despised most was conflict and unrest. He often told his ministers, “My kingdom is at peace, my people are loyal, and I do not wish to hear any voice that disturbs this harmony.”

His chief advisor, Deception, knew exactly how to please the king. Every day, he reassured him, “Your Majesty, your kingdom is stronger than ever, your people live in prosperity, and those who warn of danger are merely stirring up trouble. Don’t let them disrupt your peace.”

One day, a young soldier named Brave arrived at the palace, covered in dust from a long journey, his face filled with urgency. Kneeling before the king, he pleaded, “Your Majesty! The border walls have deteriorated, and enemy forces are secretly gathering. We must repair our defenses immediately, or the kingdom could fall at any moment!”

But King Ease frowned, waving his hand dismissively. “I do not wish to hear such ominous words. Our kingdom has never faced war, and it never will. We must focus on prosperity, not fearmongering.”

Deception smirked and stepped forward. “Your Majesty, this soldier is merely an alarmist. He wants you to believe in an imaginary crisis and disturb the kingdom’s peace. True loyalty means bringing you peace, not worries.”

The king nodded and turned to Brave. “You are spreading unnecessary fear. Leave the palace at once!”

Brave looked at the king with sorrow, knowing he could not change his mind. Silently, he left. But he did not abandon his duty. Gathering a group of loyal soldiers, he stationed himself at the border and secretly began reinforcing the walls.

Then, disaster struck.

Under the cover of night, enemy troops advanced. The decayed walls crumbled under their assault. Fires spread, villages were looted, and the cries of the people echoed through the kingdom. By the time the king received the news, the enemy was already at the gates. The ministers who once praised the kingdom’s “peace” now stood pale with fear, some even preparing to flee.

Only then did the king realize that he had been blinded by false security and comforting lies. Panicked, he asked, “What do we do? Who will save my kingdom?”

At that moment, a disciplined force charged onto the battlefield. Using their knowledge of the terrain, they held the gates and fought with all their might. Their leader was none other than Brave.

After an intense night of battle, Brave and his warriors finally repelled the enemy, saving the kingdom. The people rejoiced, but the land bore deep scars of war. The once-glorious city now lay in ruins.

The king had learned his lesson.

He approached Brave, his eyes filled with regret. “You spoke the truth. I was wrong…”

From that day on, King Ease removed Deception from his position and appointed Brave as the kingdom’s new commander. He ordered the walls to be rebuilt and the army to be strengthened. He finally understood that true peace does not come from listening to comforting lies but from courageously facing unsettling truths.

Conclusion:

In Micah’s time, false prophets deceived the people with soothing words of peace, leading them to destruction. Today, many still use words like “harmony,” “loyalty,” and “order” to reject God’s truth, preferring only what pleases them. But God’s justice will prevail, and lies can never bring true security. Only truth can save us.

Will we stand for truth like Brave, or will we, like Ease, remain trapped in the illusion of comfort?
