Title: True Blessings

Date: 23/3/25
Scriptures:
• “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away.” (Haggai 1:9)
• “From this day on, I will bless you.” (Haggai 2:19)

Story:

Ah Mu had high hopes of using his own hands to create a better life for his family. He spent all his savings to open a shop, naming it “Blessed Store”, hoping that this small venture would bring happiness to his family. However, reality poured cold water on his burning expectations.

Despite working tirelessly from dawn to dusk, coming up with every possible idea, the business still showed no signs of improvement. The shop remained empty, and the books grew thinner day by day; the endless struggles slowly wore down his confidence.

One night, exhausted, Ah Mu returned home to find his wife sewing his son’s old clothes, while his five-year-old son sat quietly in the corner, holding a chipped toy car and silently pushing it. The little face that should have been filled with laughter was instead filled with an unsettling silence for his age.

“Daddy, does our family not have any blessings?” His son’s unintentional words struck Ah Mu’s heart like a sharp blade. He stood frozen, his eyes brimming with tears, filled with helplessness and sorrow.

Late that night, weighed down by his thoughts, Ah Mu dusted off the Bible that had been left untouched for so long. His eyes landed on a verse: “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little.” When he read this, his heart shook. He finally understood that he had been desperately seeking blessings but had never truly sought the God who gives blessings.

Tears quietly fell as he knelt down, trembling in prayer: “Lord, I was wrong! I have been chasing after grace, but I neglected that You are the source of grace. Please forgive me!”

The next day, he made an unexpected decision: he changed the store’s name to “God’s Presence Store.” He no longer focused solely on profits but treated customers with integrity, helping those in need with a warm heart. He even placed a Bible in the store to remind himself to keep God at the center of everything.

Soon, a quiet transformation began. Customers gradually increased, not just because of the products, but because of the warmth and sincerity they felt in the store. The increase in income alleviated the family’s pressure, and the home began to feel more harmonious and blessed.

One night, Ah Mu returned home to find his wife busy in the kitchen and his child drawing on the living room floor. The sound of innocent laughter filled the entire house. He bent down, gently hugging his son, and heard him say sweetly, “Daddy, I think our family is really blessed now!”

Tears welled up again, but this time, they were tears of gratitude. He recalled the promise in Haggai: “From this day on, I will bless you.” He finally understood that true blessings are not about how much wealth one has, but about having God’s presence in life.

Conclusion:

We often, like Ah Mu, believe that our hard work will bring happiness, but we often feel that it is in vain. True blessings do not lie in our plans and abilities but in God’s grace. May we learn to let go of our stubbornness and return to God’s embrace, for a heart that longs for God is the path to true blessings.

May every heart find the deepest satisfaction and peace in God’s presence!
