一、经文背景

《提摩太后书》是保罗在临终前写给属灵儿子提摩太的书信。当时保罗身陷罗马监牢，生命即将结束，但他最关切的是提摩太能否坚守真道、继续传扬福音。

提摩太年纪较轻，体质软弱，性格也可能较胆怯，因此保罗在此特别鼓励他要刚强、忠心，不要惧怕苦难。这段经文浓缩了福音的本质、呼召的根源与服事者应有的态度，是属灵生命的提醒与激励。

二、经文解释（提摩太后书 1:6–10）

提后 1:6
为此我提醒你，使你将神藉我按手所给你的恩赐，再如火挑旺起来。

解释：保罗提到当初按手祷告时，神赐给提摩太属灵的恩赐，如教导、牧养等。如今劝勉他要将这恩赐重新点燃，不可让属灵的火熄灭。属灵恩赐若不使用，就容易沉睡或冷却。

提后 1:7
因为神赐给我们不是胆怯的心，乃是刚强、仁爱、谨守的心。

解释：胆怯不是出于神。神赐下的是使人有力量、有爱心、有节制的心。这节经文提醒我们：靠着圣灵，我们可以在压力中站立，不因惧怕而退缩。

提后 1:8
你不要以给我们的主作见证为耻，也不要以我这为主被囚的为耻。总要按神的能力，与我为福音同受苦难。

解释：保罗劝勉提摩太要勇敢地作主见证，不因外在羞辱或逼迫而退后。即使要受苦，也要倚靠神的能力，与属灵同工一同为福音站立。

提后 1:9
神救了我们，以圣召召我们，不是按我们的行为，乃是按他的旨意和恩典。这恩典是万古之先在基督耶稣里赐给我们的。

解释：我们的呼召与得救并非出于自己的行为，而是神早已在永恒中预备的恩典。祂按着祂的计划呼召我们，赋予我们使命，这是我们的身份根源。

提后 1:10
但如今藉着我们救主基督耶稣的显现才表明出来了。他已经把死废去，藉着福音，将不能坏的生命彰显出来。

解释：神的恩典因着耶稣的显现完全启示出来。耶稣藉着十字架胜过死亡，将那永恒不坏的生命显明给我们。福音不只带来信息，更带来生命的改变与永恒的盼望。

三、属灵应用
1. 恩赐需要被挑旺
神已将恩赐和使命放在我们里面，需要我们有意识地操练与回应，不能任由它冷却。
2. 胆怯不是从神来的
我们可以靠着圣灵的能力，刚强、仁爱、有自律地服事，不惧逼迫或挑战。
3. 圣召根基于神的恩典
不是我们配得，而是神早已预定。我们的服事是回应祂的计划，不是靠自己的能力或表现。

Responding to God’s Holy Calling and Grace (2 Timothy 1:6–10)

1. Background of the Passage

2 Timothy is Paul’s final letter, written from a Roman prison shortly before his death. He addresses his spiritual son, Timothy, who was younger, possibly timid, and physically weak. Paul’s deep concern is that Timothy would remain faithful to the gospel and continue his ministry boldly.

This passage is a powerful exhortation about the essence of the gospel, the origin of our calling, and the character of a faithful servant. It calls every believer to spiritual renewal and courage.

2. Passage Explanation (2 Timothy 1:6–10)

Verse 6
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”

Explanation: Paul reminds Timothy of the spiritual gift he received through prayer and the laying on of hands—likely teaching, pastoring, or leading. He urges Timothy to rekindle it, as spiritual gifts can grow dormant if neglected.

Verse 7
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”

Explanation: Fear does not come from God. The Holy Spirit empowers us with strength, love, and self-control. This verse reminds us that with God’s Spirit, we can stand firm under pressure and not shrink back.

Verse 8
“So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.”

Explanation: Paul encourages Timothy not to be ashamed of testifying about Christ, nor of Paul’s imprisonment. He is to be willing to suffer for the gospel, relying on God’s power to endure.

Verse 9
“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.”

Explanation: Our salvation and calling are rooted not in our performance but in God’s eternal purpose and grace. He planned this long before creation and now invites us to walk in it.

Verse 10
“But it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”

Explanation: This eternal grace is fully revealed through Jesus Christ. By His death and resurrection, He defeated death and brought eternal life to light. The gospel is not just a message—it is the manifestation of life itself.

3. Spiritual Applications
   1. Gifts must be rekindled
      God has already placed His gifts and calling within us. They must be stirred up, nurtured, and put into practice.
   2. Fear is not from God
      We are not called to be timid. By the Spirit, we can live boldly, lovingly, and with self-discipline.
   3. Our calling is rooted in grace
      It’s not about earning or deserving—it’s a divine invitation to partner with God’s eternal plan.
