Review, Obedience, Faith, Declaration: The Four Keys to the Door of Blessing

Date: 28 May 2025

Haggai 2:18
“Consider now from this day onward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day when the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid, consider:”

Haggai 2:19
“Is the seed yet in the barn? Indeed, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day on I will bless you.”

When we look at this passage through the lens of “keys,” we see that God Himself has given several spiritual keys to unlock the door of blessing.

Key 1: Review the Past

God says, “Consider now from this day onward.”
This is the first key—to review. God called His people to pause, step back from their busyness, and reflect on their failures and hardships. Not to be trapped in guilt, but to see the root of their problem: Why was there no harvest? Why were the storehouses empty? The answer: they had neglected the temple of the Lord and their relationship with Him.

This key reminds us:
Spiritual turning points often begin with reflection. Seeing the gaps of the past is the first step to stepping into a changed future.

Key 2: Step Out in Obedience

God emphasized “the day when the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid.”
It wasn’t the day the temple was completed, but simply the day they started—when they responded to God’s call and laid the foundation. Even this small beginning was precious in God’s eyes.

This key reminds us:
The first step of obedience is the moment God treasures.
Blessing doesn’t wait for everything to be fully built; it begins the moment you respond and take that first step of obedience.

Key 3: Wait in Faith

God reminded them, “Is the seed yet in the barn? The vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit.”
This was their reality—still barren, with no visible results. Yet God wanted them to understand: don’t let the current lack defeat you, because the season of blessing is coming.

This key reminds us:
Even when there is nothing in sight, we must hold on to faith. Faith is the bridge that connects us to God’s promise.

Key 4: Declare the Promise

God said, “From this day on I will bless you.”
This is the most crucial key—to declare and believe God’s promise. God didn’t wait for the people to see results before saying, “I will bless you.” He declared it while they were still in lack, while there was no harvest.

This key reminds us:
Learn to declare the blessing even when you don’t see the results yet. Trust in God’s timeline. Don’t wait until the harvest to give thanks—start preparing your heart to receive the blessing from today.

Closing: Today Is the Starting Point

God’s heart is very clear:
Review the past, see the problem; step out in obedience, take the first step; hold on to faith even when nothing is in sight; and declare God’s promise—from today, the blessing begins.

The door of blessing is already open.
The key is—are you willing to take up these four keys?
