神的心意不是报复,而是怜悯;
🕯️ Light in the Festival of Lights (Hanukkah Meditation)
📅 Date: 16 December 2025
📖 Scripture: Luke 1:78–79
“Because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven,
to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
—
Meditation
At the beginning of Hanukkah, we witness acts of terror.
As the lamps are lit, the shadows of the world are still stirring.
This reminds us that light does not appear because darkness disappears,
but because it is meant to enter the darkness.
Zechariah’s song does not deny the reality of the “shadow of death,”
but proclaims a deeper truth—
God’s intention is not revenge, but mercy;
not to leave people trapped in fear, but to guide their steps into peace.
The “rising sun” does not come from the earth,
but from heaven above.
When human violence appears glaring and overwhelming,
God’s light shines in a gentle yet unwavering way—
illuminating the wounded,
and also exposing the broken darkness behind those who commit violence.
The lamps of Hanukkah remind us:
we do not answer darkness with greater darkness,
but allow the light that comes from God
to keep burning—
even in the places where it seems most unlikely.
—
Prayer
Lord,
amid fear and sorrow,
let the rising sun from heaven come upon us.
Shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death.
Heal broken hearts,
bring an end to the cycle of violence,
and guide our feet
into the path of peace You have promised.
Amen.
