🌿 Learning Wisdom from the Ant
📅 Date: 29 January 2026
📖 Scripture: Proverbs 6:6–8
“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise.
It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”
⸻
🐜 Devotional
An ant is tiny—
so small that it often escapes our notice.
And yet Proverbs tells us to go and watch it, and to learn wisdom from it.
That in itself is striking.
The ant works without being watched,
without being pushed,
without anyone checking on its progress.
And still, it works day after day.
It does not begin because it is about to starve,
nor does it move only when pressure mounts.
It works because it understands something we often forget:
seasons do not wait.
When summer is gone,
no amount of effort can bring it back.
How often our lives look very different.
When we have time, we delay.
When time is short, we panic.
We rush when exams are near,
we pray when problems appear,
we think about change only when crisis comes.
Proverbs is not written to shame us.
It is written to wake us up—gently.
Wisdom is not something that suddenly appears in a crisis.
It is something quietly stored, little by little, in ordinary days.
What the ant carries each day seems insignificant.
But when winter comes,
it is ready.
This is how our lives are meant to be shaped.
Our spiritual life, our character, our readiness, our discipline—
none of these are built in a single prayer or a single decision.
They are formed through small, daily acts of obedience.
Perhaps today you are facing something important,
and you feel the weight of pressure and uncertainty.
God is not mocking you.
He is simply speaking to you through the ant:
There is still time.
Place what you have now into My hands,
and faithfully do what is in front of you.
Not for perfection,
but for faithfulness.
And from today onward,
learn a new rhythm:
Do not wait for winter to begin working.
Prepare while it is still summer.
⸻
🙏 Prayer
Lord,
teach me the wisdom of the ant—
to live not driven by pressure,
but guided by reverence for You.
Forgive me for my delays, my distractions, and for putting things off.
Have mercy on my weakness today,
and help me use well the time that is still in my hands.
Not only for this one matter,
but to shape a life that is ready and prepared.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
