我们的价值不再由世界市场决定。

In the golden age of the northern kingdom of Israel, the economy was strong and public life looked stable. Trade flourished. Cities expanded. Wealth accumulated. Yet the prophet Amos exposes the hidden fracture: justice itself had been turned into a commodity.

“They sell the righteous for silver” — truth could be purchased and bent.
“They sell the needy for a pair of sandals” — human dignity was worth less than a transaction.

This was not merely corruption in the courts; it was a moral collapse. When a society measures people by price, the image of God is quietly pushed aside. The scandal is not the smallness of the sum, but the cheapening of a human life. A pair of sandals becomes a mirror reflecting the bankruptcy of a nation’s conscience.

and our value is no longer set by the market of the world.

Lord of justice,

awaken what has grown numb in me.
Reveal every quiet compromise
and every place I ignore the vulnerable.

Purify my conscience,
that I would rather lose advantage
than participate in injustice;
rather stand exposed
than trade away what is true.

Teach me to live as one
whose worth cannot be priced
because it is held in You.
