火若没有方向,会烧毁;

善,要抓紧;

🔥 Do Not Quench the Fire, Keep Your Heart Awake

1 Thessalonians 5:19–22 • March 2, 2026

“Do not quench the Spirit.
Do not treat prophecies with contempt.
But test everything; hold fast what is good.
Reject every kind of evil.”

  1. The Fire Can Be Put Out — By Us

As Paul closes his letter, he does not turn to complex theology.
He points to a simple but sobering truth:

The fire of the Holy Spirit can be extinguished.

His prompting is often gentle—
a quiet nudge, a subtle unease, a sudden desire to pray.
But we also know the other voice:

  • “Maybe later.”
  • “Don’t be too spiritual.”
  • “Isn’t this too much?”
  • “What will people think?”

And slowly, the flame shrinks.
Not because God withdraws,
but because we keep pressing “dismiss.”

Spiritual coldness rarely comes from one dramatic fall.
It comes from many small refusals.

  1. Do Not Despise What God May Be Saying

“Do not treat prophecies with contempt.”

This is not a call to blind acceptance.
It is a warning against the reflex that says:

“I’ve been hurt before.”
“I already know better.”
“I don’t trust that person.”
“I don’t want to hear this.”

Sometimes God speaks through a sermon.
Sometimes through a friend’s simple sentence.
To despise the message is not merely to reject a person—
it may be to turn away from God’s voice.

  1. Stay Fiery, Stay Clear

Paul holds passion and discernment together:

“Test everything.”

Spiritual maturity is not blind enthusiasm,
nor is it cynical suspicion.
It is the ability to:

  • keep the heart burning,
  • while keeping the mind awake.

Testing is like refining metal—
the true remains, the false is removed.
We need the Spirit’s fire,
and we need the truth’s compass.

  1. After Testing, Choose Your Path

“Hold fast what is good. Reject every kind of evil.”

Discernment is not theoretical.
It leads to action.

Goodness must be embraced with intention.
Evil must be rejected with clarity.
Holiness is not extremism—
it is the natural response of a heart that loves God.

🌿 Reflection for Today

Have I recently:

  • pushed aside the Spirit’s gentle prompting?
  • ignored God’s voice because it felt inconvenient?
  • lost passion because I over-relied on logic?
  • acted impulsively without discernment?

Lord, keep me from extinguishing Your fire.
Keep me awake in Your presence.

🔥 Prayer of the Day

Lord, guard my heart from quenching Your flame.
Ignite me, and guide me.
Let me stay awake in Your fire,
and walk steadily in Your light.

Amen.
