🌿 Greeting by Name

📅 March 14, 2026

📖 Scripture

“Peace be to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends there by name.”
— Third Epistle of John 1:15

✨ Devotional: The Love That Remembers Names

Though the Third Epistle of John contains only one short chapter, it is filled with very real and personal relationships.
In this letter, John mentions several names: Gaius, Diotrephes, and Demetrius.

These names remind us that the church is never an abstract crowd, but a community made up of real people.

So when John ends the letter by saying:

“Greet the friends by name.”

This is more than a polite greeting.
It reflects a heart that truly remembers and cares.

It is not a general greeting to “everyone,”
but a greeting that remembers each person individually.

In God’s family, we are not numbers and we are not a vague crowd.
We are lives that are known and remembered.

God knows our names, and He sees the story of our lives.
He remembers our joys, and He also remembers our tears.

Therefore John closes the letter with a simple yet profound blessing:

“Peace be to you.”

May this peace come upon you,
and may it flow among God’s people as we share it with one another.

🙏 Prayer

Lord,
thank You for knowing our names and remembering our lives.

Help us to love and care for one another in Your family,
not merely as people in a crowd, but as brothers and sisters whose lives matter.

May Your peace remain among us
and rest upon every person who belongs to You.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
