🌿 From Lukewarm to Burning

📖 Today’s Scripture

“So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”
— Revelation 3:16

✨ Devotional

In the letter to the church in Laodicea, the Lord Jesus pointed out a serious problem:
they were neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm.

The city of Laodicea did not have its own water source. Water had to be brought in from far away. By the time it reached the city, it had become lukewarm—neither refreshing like cold water nor healing like hot water. Instead, it was unpleasant to drink.

The Lord used this picture to describe a condition of spiritual complacency.

This state does not mean openly rejecting God or completely abandoning faith. Rather, it often looks like this:

  • The heart no longer longs for God
  • Faith becomes a habit
  • Life becomes filled with the world
  • The inner spiritual fire fades away

Outwardly everything may seem normal,
but inwardly the heart slowly becomes numb and cold.

Yet the Lord’s rebuke is not meant to reject people, but to awaken them to return.

Then the Lord says:

“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.”
(Revelation 3:19)

And He tenderly adds:

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock.”
(Revelation 3:20)

This reminds us that even when a person’s faith grows cold, the Lord still waits at the door. If we are willing to open our hearts to Him again, He will come in and restore a close relationship with us.

Faith is not merely a habit.
It is a heart that continually responds to God.

May we come before the Lord each day again,
allowing His presence to rekindle the fire within us.

🙏 Prayer

Lord,

Please search and illuminate my heart.
If I have become spiritually cold without realizing it, awaken my love for You again.

Do not let me remain in a lukewarm faith.
Let Your Word, Your presence, and Your grace ignite the fire within me once more.

May my life not be a numb routine,
but a sincere and passionate response to You.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.
