Revival Begins with Removing Idols

Date: May 5, 2025

Scripture:
“Asa removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord’s temple.”
—2 Chronicles 15:8 (NIV)

Devotional:

When the word of the Lord came to King Asa, he didn’t hesitate. He stood up and courageously tore down the idols throughout the land—even the Asherah pole set up by his own grandmother. He knew that the first step to revival was to remove everything that had taken God’s rightful place.

But Asa didn’t stop there. He also rebuilt the altar of the Lord. The altar, once neglected and forgotten, was restored to welcome back true worship and the presence of God among His people.

Revival doesn’t begin with emotional highs; it begins with repentance and obedience. It is a spiritual turning—from idols to the living God, from self to the Savior, from coldness to holy fire.

Reflection:

Are there “idols” hidden in our hearts today?
They may be things we rely on—security, success, relationships, or even past wounds. Not all idols are evil in form, but they become dangerous when they quietly replace God at the center of our hearts.

Revival is not a performance; it’s a deep inner cleansing.
Are you willing to tear down those idols?
Will you rebuild the altar of the Lord in your heart, where He alone reigns?

Prayer:

Lord, shine Your light into my heart and reveal anything that has taken Your place.
I want to remove every obstacle and give You the throne of my life once again.
Let Your altar be rebuilt in my heart. May my worship be real, my love be pure, and my fire be rekindled.
Let revival begin with me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
