🌙 Title: When Vision Grows Dim, God Still Speaks
📅 Date: 18 January 2026
📖 Scripture: 1 Samuel 3:2

“One night Eli, whose eyes had grown so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place.”

🕯 Devotion

It was a very quiet night.

An old priest, Eli,
lying in his “usual place.”
His eyes had grown dim.
He could no longer see clearly.

The Bible intentionally records this small detail.
It is not only describing his physical condition,
but also revealing a spiritual condition.

Just one verse earlier, Scripture says:

“In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.”

It was not that there was no worship.
Not that there was no service.
Not that there was no religious activity.
But rather — spiritual sensitivity was fading.

Eli was still in his position.
Still in his routine.
Still lying in his “usual place.”
But his vision had grown dim.

How similar this is to certain seasons in our own lives:

We still pray.
We still attend gatherings.
We still serve.
Yet our inner hunger, expectation, and sensitivity
quietly begin to fade.

🔥 But Scripture continues:

“The lamp of God had not yet gone out.”

What a comforting sentence.

Even when human vision grows dim,
God’s lamp has not gone out.
Even when the spiritual atmosphere feels low,
God is still preparing to speak.

👂 To whom does God speak?

Not to the one who sees best,
but to the one who is willing to listen.

Eli could no longer see clearly,
but Samuel could still hear.

He did not even truly know the LORD yet,
but his heart was open.
When God called, he answered:

“Here I am.”

That was enough.

Many times,
before God restores our sight,
He first restores our hearing.

💧 A word for today

Perhaps you are in a season where:
• Things feel less clear spiritually
• Your heart feels tired
• Your inner life feels quiet and dull

This does not mean God has left.

It may mean:

This is the night before God begins something new.

🙏 Prayer

Lord,
if my vision has grown dim,
if my heart has grown tired,
if my spirit is no longer as sensitive as before,

teach me again to say:
“Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.”

Even if I cannot yet see clearly,
let me once again hear You clearly.

Keep Your lamp burning within me,
and never let it go out.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
