🌿 Do Not Rely on Uncertain Riches

📅 Date: March 4, 2026
📖 Scripture:
1 Timothy 6:17

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

  1. Wealth Is Not the Problem—Dependence Is

This verse is not condemning those who are wealthy.
Paul is writing to the young pastor Timothy, reminding him to exhort those who are rich in this present age.

The Bible never says that having wealth is a sin.
What we must guard against is the heart’s dependence on wealth.

Wealth easily creates an illusion:
as if security comes from our bank account,
as if the future is firmly in our own hands.

But Paul gives a crucial reminder:

Wealth is uncertain.

Markets change. Circumstances change.
Even life itself is full of unpredictability.

If our sense of security is built on money,
our hearts will rise and fall with the environment.

  1. Pride Is the Greatest Temptation of Wealth

Paul specifically warns:

“Do not be arrogant.”

When a person has resources, status, or success,
pride can quietly slip into the heart.

People begin to think:

  • I am more successful than others.
  • I earned all of this myself.
  • I don’t need to rely on anyone.

But Scripture reminds us:

The true Provider is not wealth—it is God.

Wealth is merely a tool in God’s hands,
not the foundation of life.

  1. God Is the True Source of Provision

The final line of the verse is incredibly tender:

“Put your hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

God is not stingy.
He created a world filled with abundance.

He gives us:

  • food
  • sunlight
  • family
  • resources
  • the many blessings of daily life

All of these are gifts of grace.

But Scripture reminds us:

Enjoy what God gives—
but do not let His gifts replace Him.

Money can be used,
but it must never become our hope.

🌿 Today’s Meditation

Wealth is not the security of life—
God is.

Money may change,
but God’s provision does not change.

When our hearts no longer rely on wealth but on God,
we become truly free to enjoy everything He has given.
