📖 The Open Mailbox: The Entrance of Faith
📅 March 7, 2026
📖 Scripture
“I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.”
— Philemon 1:6
⸻
- The Dream: Open Mailboxes
In the dream, I was placing “Daily Bread” into the mailboxes of an apartment block.
As I walked closer, I was surprised to discover:
- All the mailbox doors were already open
- Some people were standing beside them, quietly waiting to receive
- No one was being urged
- No one was being forced
They seemed already prepared.
When I woke up, I understood something:
A mailbox is an entrance.
Only when it is open can a message enter.
And an open mailbox is like a heart prepared in faith.
⸻
- Philemon: A Letter Delivered to the Door
The book of Philemon itself is a letter.
Paul sent Onesimus back to Philemon and wrote:
“I am sending him—who is my very heart—back to you.”
— Philemon 1:12
This letter was delivered to Philemon’s doorstep.
But the key was not whether the letter arrived.
The key was whether Philemon was willing to open it and receive it.
When he read the letter, he had to see Onesimus again—
but this time through the lens of the gospel.
⸻
- Paul’s Confidence in Philemon
Near the end of the letter, Paul wrote a powerful statement:
“Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.”
— Philemon 1:21
Paul did not simply make a request.
He trusted that Philemon’s faith would respond to the love of the gospel.
That is why he prayed earlier:
“That the sharing of your faith may become effective.”
— Philemon 1:6
When Philemon chose to receive Onesimus,
his faith moved from thought to action,
from hearing to living.
⸻
- From Slave to Brother: The Gospel Redefines Relationships
Paul made a request that went beyond the social system of the time:
“No longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother.”
— Philemon 1:16
In that culture,
the relationship between master and slave was almost impossible to change.
But when the gospel enters,
identity is renamed and relationships are redefined.
When Philemon received this letter,
he also received a new way of seeing, and a new relationship.
⸻
- Prepared Hearts: Open Mailboxes
The most striking part of the dream was this:
The mailboxes were already open, and people were standing beside them waiting.
It reminded me that:
- Some hearts have already been prepared by God
- When His word arrives, they are not resisting
- They are waiting, longing, and open
Just as Paul believed Philemon would receive the letter,
God also prepares hearts to respond to His word.
When a person opens the mailbox of their life in faith,
the gospel enters,
relationships are restored,
and identity is transformed.
⸻
🙏 Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for the message in the book of Philemon,
showing us the power of the gospel to renew relationships.
Make our hearts like open mailboxes,
ready to receive Your word, Your guidance, and Your calling.
Let our faith not remain only in our thoughts,
but be expressed through love, acceptance, and forgiveness.
May Your word become our daily spiritual bread,
entering deep into our lives and bringing
new relationships,
new identity,
and new life.
In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.
