可能一直在预备今天的位置;

For Such a Time as This

12 August 2026 | Devotional from the Book of Esther

Scripture

“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
— Esther 4:14

Devotional

In the Book of Esther, God’s name is never explicitly mentioned, yet His hand can be seen throughout the story.

Esther did not choose her background. She never expected to become queen, nor could she have imagined that one day the fate of an entire people would be placed before her.

But when that moment came, she had a choice to make.

First, the choice of identity.

Esther had kept her Jewish identity hidden. But when the crisis came, she had to decide: Should she remain hidden, or courageously step forward?

Sometimes circumstances bring us to a place where we can no longer avoid the question:

Who am I? Where will I stand?

Second, the choice of timing.

Esther did not act impulsively. She first fasted for three days before going to the king. Even then, she did not reveal everything immediately, but waited for the right moment to speak.

This reminds us:

Courage is not the same as impulsiveness, and waiting does not mean doing nothing.

The right thing also needs to be done at the right time.

Third, the choice of purpose.

In the end, Esther said:

“If I perish, I perish.”

She did not know what the outcome would be, but she was willing to accept the possible cost of her choice.

At this point, Mordecai’s words became especially significant:

“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Perhaps Esther had never understood why her journey had brought her into the palace.

But in that moment, she began to see—

Perhaps the road she had travelled
had been preparing her for where she was today;
and perhaps where she was today
was precisely for this moment.

The same can be true of our lives.

There are experiences we do not understand when we are going through them. We may not know why certain doors open or why we find ourselves in certain places.

But when our “such a time as this” arrives, we still have a choice to make.

We cannot choose every circumstance that comes our way,
but we can choose how we respond.

May we have the wisdom to discern when our moment comes, the courage to step forward, and the faith to say:

Perhaps I am here for such a time as this.
