Let Go of Revenge, Move Toward Reconciliation
Date: 22 October 2026
Scripture: Isaiah 2:4
“He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.”
Devotional Reflection
Isaiah paints a picture of peace: under God’s righteous rule, people turn weapons that destroy life into tools for planting and harvesting.
This picture also invites us to examine our relationships. When we are hurt, we may want to strike back. We protect ourselves with sharp words, only to deepen the wounds between us.
“Beating swords into plowshares” can begin with a word or a choice today: replacing accusations with honest conversation, arguments with patient listening, and thoughts of revenge with trust in God—giving the relationship an opportunity to heal.
Reconciliation does not mean overlooking harm. It also requires honesty, repentance, and appropriate boundaries. We can begin by letting go of the desire to hurt the other person and, through God’s grace, taking a step toward peace.
Today’s Reflection
Am I still holding on to a “sword” that I am unwilling to lay down? How can my words become tools for restoring relationships today?
