The One Who Goes Before Us

23 June 2026 – Devotional

Scripture:
Micah 2:13

“The One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their King will pass through before them, the LORD at their head.”

In life, we often face obstacles that seem impossible to overcome—closed doors, towering walls, and uncertain paths ahead. We try to break through by our own strength, only to find ourselves growing weary and discouraged.

Yet Micah gives us a beautiful picture of hope: God’s people do not have to find the way on their own, because the One who breaks open the way goes before them.

He does not stand at a distance giving instructions. He walks ahead, breaking through every barrier, opening the gates, and making a way for those who follow Him. Even more comforting is the promise: “Their King will pass through before them, the LORD at their head.” We are never left to face life alone. We walk under the leadership of our King, guided step by step by the Lord Himself.

Many times, we focus so much on the walls in front of us that we forget to look to the One who has already gone ahead. He knows where the path is, and He knows the right time to open a door and the right time to ask us to wait. Our calling is not to force our way through, but to faithfully follow His footsteps.

Perhaps today you are facing uncertainty in your work, your family, your health, or your future. Remember this: God is not only waiting for you at the destination—He is also the One who goes before you, preparing the way.

When He moves ahead, no gate is too strong to stop Him. When He leads, even the longest journey has a clear direction.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being the One who goes before me and makes a way. When I see obstacles, help me to see Your presence. When fear rises within me, fill my heart with faith to follow You. Teach me not to rely on my own strength, but to walk closely behind You, for You are my King and the faithful Shepherd who leads my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
