In the High Place, United with God’s Heart

Devotional – August 5, 2026

Scripture

David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” And the LORD said to David, “Go up, for I will certainly deliver the Philistines into your hand.”

— 2 Samuel 5:19 (NKJV)

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

— Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)

Devotional

A drone photographer once flew his drone several hundred meters into the sky for the first time.

As the live footage appeared on his phone, he was amazed. The roads, buildings, and traffic that had looked chaotic from the ground suddenly appeared organized and connected from above. Roads that seemed to lead nowhere were actually linked together, and areas that looked hopelessly congested made perfect sense from a higher perspective.

It was the same city, but a different altitude revealed an entirely different view.

Our spiritual lives are much the same.

Many times we become overwhelmed by our immediate circumstances, emotions, and challenges. We see only a small portion of the journey ahead, and that limited perspective often leads to anxiety, fear, or the temptation to rely on our own understanding.

But God sees the whole picture.

He knows the beginning and the end. He knows which path we should take, when to move forward, and when to wait.

This reminds us of the prayer Jesus taught His disciples:

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Prayer is not about asking God to fit into our plans. It is about allowing Him to lift us into His perspective—seeing what He sees and aligning our hearts with His will.

In 2 Samuel 5, when the Philistines attacked, David did not rush into battle.

Although he was an experienced warrior, he first sought the Lord and asked,

“Shall I go up?”

Only after God answered,

“Go up, for I will certainly deliver them into your hand,”

did David move forward with confidence.

True victory did not come from David’s experience or military skill. It came from walking in step with God—following His timing and obeying His direction.

Today, we are surrounded by countless voices: news headlines, social media, the opinions of others, and even our own inner thoughts.

Yet God invites us to come into His presence first and see life from heaven’s perspective.

There, we learn not merely to focus on our problems, but to recognize His work. We seek not merely to express our own opinions, but to understand His heart. We respond not simply to circumstances, but to God Himself.

When our perspective is lifted, our prayers begin to change.

For what truly transforms the world is not the voice of man, but the will of God accomplished in people’s hearts and revealed through those who walk in obedience to Him.

Reflection

Powerful prayer is not telling God what He should do. It is choosing to stand where He invites us to stand and allowing our hearts to become one with His.

May we come before the Lord each day to seek Him, listen to His voice, and obey His leading.

As He continually lifts our perspective, may our prayers become channels through which His will is accomplished on earth.
