「我们要建造这些城邑，四围筑墙，盖楼、安门、做闩；地还属我们，是因寻求耶和华我们的神；我们既寻求他，他就赐我们四境平安。于是建造城邑，诸事亨通。」

灵修分享

每逢国庆日，我们都会回顾一个国家走过的道路。

从一个资源有限的小岛，到今天拥有稳定的社会、完善的建设和多元族群共同生活的新加坡，这一路并不是理所当然。我们所享有的平安、安全与稳定，值得我们感恩，也值得我们珍惜。

《历代志下》14章记载亚撒作犹大王的时候，国家经历了一段难得的安定时期。亚撒没有把这份平安仅仅归功于城墙、军队或人的能力，而是指出一个更深的原因：

「我们既寻求他，他就赐我们四境平安。」

值得注意的是，寻求神并没有使百姓停止努力。

相反，他们在平安的时候积极建造城邑、筑墙、盖楼、安门、做闩。这里让我们看见一个重要的原则：信靠神与尽人的责任并不冲突。

他们寻求神，也认真建设国家；
他们仰望神，也为未来做好预备。

今天的新加坡同样需要这样的智慧。

我们感谢过去一代人的付出，也为今天所拥有的一切感恩；但国家真正宝贵的，不只是高楼、经济和科技，更是人民能够安居乐业，不同种族与文化能够彼此尊重，下一代能够在和平中成长。

国庆日不只是庆祝已经拥有的成就，也是为未来献上祷告的日子。

愿我们不把平安视为理所当然，而是懂得珍惜、守护，并继续为这片土地寻求神。

愿神赐智慧给国家的领袖，赐合一给我们的人民，保守我们的家庭和下一代；在世界不断变化的时候，仍使新加坡成为一个和平、稳定、充满恩典的地方。

「我们既寻求他，他就赐我们四境平安。」

愿这句话成为我们在国庆日为新加坡献上的感恩，也成为对未来的祷告。

今日祷告

亲爱的天父，

感谢你赐给我们新加坡这个家。

在国庆的日子，我们为过去所经历的恩典献上感恩，也为今天所拥有的和平、安全与稳定感谢你。

求你继续保守新加坡，赐智慧给国家的领袖，使他们以公义、正直和智慧治理这片土地；保守不同种族、语言和世代的人彼此尊重、彼此相爱、同心同行。

也求你祝福我们的下一代，使他们不只承接一个繁荣的国家，更承接正直、仁爱、谦卑和感恩的生命。

愿我们在建设国家的同时，也懂得寻求你；在享受平安的时候，也不忘记为这片土地守望。

愿你继续赐新加坡四境平安，使这小小的国家成为许多人的祝福。

Peace on Every Side

“Let us build up these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
—2 Chronicles 14:7

Devotional Reflection

Every National Day, we look back on the journey our nation has taken.

From a small island with limited resources to the Singapore we know today—a stable society with strong infrastructure where people of diverse backgrounds live together—none of this should be taken for granted. The peace, security, and stability we enjoy are worthy of our gratitude and should be deeply treasured.

In 2 Chronicles 14, we read that during the reign of Asa, king of Judah, the nation experienced a precious season of peace and stability. Asa did not attribute this peace merely to walls, armies, or human strength. Instead, he pointed to a deeper reason:

“We sought him and he has given us rest on every side.”

It is worth noticing that seeking God did not cause the people to stop working.

On the contrary, during this season of peace they actively built towns, strengthened walls, raised towers, and installed gates and bars. This reveals an important principle: trusting God and faithfully fulfilling our responsibilities are not in conflict.

They sought God, and they diligently built their nation;
they looked to God, and they prepared wisely for the future.

Singapore today needs the same kind of wisdom.

We are grateful for the sacrifices and contributions of the generations before us, and we give thanks for all that we enjoy today. Yet the true treasure of a nation is not found only in its skyscrapers, economy, or technology. It is also found in people being able to live and work in peace, different races and cultures respecting one another, and the next generation growing up in safety and harmony.

National Day is not only a time to celebrate what has already been achieved; it is also a day to pray for the future.

May we never take peace for granted, but learn to cherish and safeguard it, while continuing to seek God for this land.

May God grant wisdom to our national leaders, unity to our people, and protection over our families and the next generation. In a constantly changing world, may Singapore continue to be a place of peace, stability, and grace.

“We sought him and he has given us rest on every side.”

May these words become both our thanksgiving for Singapore on National Day and our prayer for its future.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us Singapore as our home.

On this National Day, we give thanks for the grace we have experienced throughout the years, and we thank You for the peace, security, and stability we enjoy today.

Please continue to watch over Singapore. Grant wisdom to our national leaders, that they may govern this land with justice, integrity, and wisdom. Help people of different races, languages, and generations to respect and love one another and to walk together in unity.

We also ask You to bless our next generation, that they may inherit not only a prosperous nation, but also lives marked by integrity, compassion, humility, and gratitude.

As we continue to build our nation, may we also remember to seek You. As we enjoy peace, may we never forget to stand in prayer for this land.

May You continue to grant Singapore peace on every side, and may this small nation become a blessing to many.
