却还需要继续学习;
自己却仍然需要经历;
有人分享;
有人教导;
不是因为我已经完全活出来,所以才分享;
一下,又一下;
也借着我流出去;
The Typewriter from Heaven
August 10, 2026 | Dream Devotional
Scripture
“Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given… for the hand of the LORD his God was on him.”
— Ezra 7:6
“For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.”
— Ezra 7:10
⸻
The Dream
In the dream, I was in an elevator when I met several salespeople who specialized in selling typewriters.
I was curious and wondered:
Does anyone still use typewriters these days?
With computers and printers making everything so convenient, old-fashioned typewriters seem to have long been left behind by the times.
But one of the salespeople said to me:
“A typewriter can strike the paper with force, but a printer cannot.”
Those words left a deep impression on me.
Later, we exchanged business cards, hoping that we could help one another and work together in the future.
After waking up, I kept thinking:
Why, in the age of printers, did a typewriter appear in my dream?
⸻
Some Words Simply Pass By; Others Leave a Mark
An old-fashioned typewriter has a unique quality.
It does not quickly print an entire page at once. Instead, each letter is struck onto the paper, one at a time.
One strike after another.
Every keystroke carries force.
Every letter leaves a mark.
It made me think about the Word of God.
Today, we certainly do not lack access to God’s Word.
We can read the Bible every day,
listen to sermons,
read devotionals,
and receive countless Scriptures and inspirational verses.
It is also easy for us to read something that touches us and immediately share it with others.
But this dream made me ask myself:
Does God’s Word simply pass through me, or has it entered into me?
Many times, I have already shared a word with others, only to realize that I am still learning how to live it out myself.
And I began to understand:
God’s Word is not meant merely to pass through my eyes,
through my mind,
and then through my mouth to others.
His Word is also meant to leave a mark on my life.
⸻
Ezra’s Three Actions
Ezra chapter 7 introduces us to a remarkable man—Ezra.
Scripture describes him as:
“a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD… had given.”
— Ezra 7:6
But what was most precious about Ezra was not simply that he understood God’s Word.
Ezra 7:10 specifically says:
“For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.”
There are three important actions here:
Study → Obey → Teach
Understand it carefully.
Live it out willingly.
Then pass on what has been received.
In the past, when I read this verse, I often focused on the word “teach.”
But looking at it again, I realize that “obey” comes before “teach.”
This has become a personal reminder for me.
Many times, I too have shared what I have received before I have fully lived it out myself.
This does not mean that we must wait until we have perfectly practiced everything before we can share God’s Word.
Rather, whenever I share a word with someone else, I need to remember:
That word is first speaking to me as well.
I am not merely someone who passes on God’s Word.
I am also someone whom God’s Word is still shaping.
⸻
Passing It On While Being Changed
This gave me a new understanding of the “typewriter” in my dream.
Perhaps God does not only want to use me to “type out” His Word to others.
He is also striking His Word into me—one stroke at a time.
Some words I have already shared,
yet I still need to keep learning them.
Some Scriptures I have already told others about,
yet I still need to experience them myself.
Some truths I already understand,
yet they may take a long time to truly become part of my life.
Spiritual life is not:
“I have already mastered this completely, so now I can teach you.”
More often, it is:
“This is what God is teaching me, and we are learning together how to live it out.”
Then sharing becomes more than the passing on of knowledge.
It becomes walking through life together.
⸻
Receive from Above, Then Bring It Down
The entire dream took place inside an elevator.
As an elevator moves up and down, it gave me this picture:
Receive from above, then bring it down below.
Ezra 7:12 describes Ezra as:
“the teacher of the Law of the God of heaven.”
Ezra did not create his own message.
He received God’s Word,
studied God’s Word,
obeyed God’s Word,
and then brought God’s Word to the people.
Words that truly touch lives are not necessarily the most eloquent or clever words.
Often, they come through someone who has first been touched by those very words.
So the picture becomes increasingly clear:
Receive from above,
let it leave a mark within,
learn to live it out in daily life,
then pass it on through your life.
⸻
“Exchanging Business Cards”—Don’t Walk Alone
At the end of the dream, we exchanged business cards.
Why?
Because we wanted to help one another and work together in the future.
This also reminded me that Ezra never fulfilled his calling alone.
He said:
“Because the hand of the LORD my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.”
— Ezra 7:28
I especially love these words:
“to go up with me.”
God’s work is never simply about finding one highly capable person.
He is also connecting a group of people who are willing to walk together.
Some receive,
some share;
some pray,
some teach;
some remind others,
while remaining willing to be reminded themselves.
We share God’s Word with one another, and we also help one another live it out.
So the “exchange of business cards” in the dream seems to carry this reminder:
Don’t walk alone. Stay connected to one another.
Each of us is like a letter in God’s hands.
One letter alone can express only so much.
But when one letter joins another,
when one life connects with another,
a fuller story can be written.
⸻
Who Is the “Typewriter from Heaven”?
At the beginning of the dream, my question was:
“Does anyone still use typewriters these days?”
Looking back now, perhaps the more important question is:
“In this generation, has God’s Word left a mark on my life?”
We live in an age overflowing with information.
Scripture can be copied instantly.
Messages can be forwarded immediately.
A single sentence can reach many people within seconds.
Yet God seems to be reminding me:
Don’t only seek to pass it on quickly; allow His Word to enter deeply.
May it not only be my hands that are “forwarding” His Word;
may my life also be touched by it.
May it not only be my mouth that is “teaching”;
may my heart remain teachable before Him.
I do not share because I have already lived everything out perfectly.
I share while continuing to allow God’s Word to change me.
One stroke at a time.
One word at a time.
His Word enters into me,
and through me, it flows outward.
I receive.
I learn to obey.
I share.
And then I continue to be shaped by His Word.
Perhaps this is the reminder of “The Typewriter from Heaven”:
Don’t merely become someone who passes on God’s Word.
Become someone who is continually being transformed by God’s Word.
May we become the “Ezras” of our generation—
carefully studying His Word,
humbly learning to obey His Word,
and faithfully passing on His Word.
We do not need to wait until we are perfect,
but we do need to keep a heart that is willing to be changed by Him.
May God’s Word not simply pass through us,
but leave a lasting mark upon our lives.
