“Do Not Be Led Astray by Falsehood”
August 25, 2026 | Devotional Scripture: Amos 2:4
“They have rejected the law of the LORD and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed.”
People often do not turn away from God all at once. It can begin gradually, when human voices are given greater authority than the Word of God.
Amos points out an important spiritual order: first, they “rejected the law of the LORD,” and then they were led astray by falsehood.
This reminds us that when discerning heresy and false teaching, we should not judge merely by outward zeal, signs and wonders, or the number of followers. More importantly, we must return to the Word of God.
True discernment is not asking, “Does this person sound convincing?”
It is asking, “Does this agree with the Word of God?”
The more familiar we become with the truth, the easier it is to recognize what is false. When God’s Word becomes a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, we are less likely to be carried away by different voices.
Today’s Reminder:
Do not believe a message simply because it sounds spiritual. Bring everything back to Scripture and test it according to God’s Word.
Prayer:
Lord, give me a heart that loves the truth. Keep me from being led astray by human voices or false teaching. Help me to be rooted in Your Word, with wisdom to discern and humility to learn, so that I may walk in Your truth all my life. Amen.
