而是寻求祂的面;
The Bridegroom Loves His Bride
September 6, 2026 | Devotional Scripture: Luke 5:34–35
“Jesus answered, ‘Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.’”
— Luke 5:34–35
Here, Jesus used a very special identity to describe Himself:
The Bridegroom.
The Bridegroom speaks not only of an identity,
but of a relationship of love.
A bridegroom longs to be with the one he loves.
That is why Jesus said:
“While the bridegroom is with them…”
When the Bridegroom is present,
it is a time of joy.
At the deepest heart of our faith
is not merely how much we have done for the Lord,
nor how much we have received from Him,
but this—
Do we delight in being with Him?
Jesus continued:
“But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.”
Why would they fast when the Bridegroom was taken away?
Because love creates longing.
When you truly love someone,
you long for their presence.
So fasting is not merely a religious practice.
It can also become an expression of love:
“Lord, I long for You.”
The Bride’s greatest desire
is not the gifts in the Bridegroom’s hands,
but—
the Bridegroom Himself.
It is easy for us to desire the Lord’s blessings,
to long for answered prayers,
to hope for circumstances to change,
and even to seek deeper spiritual experiences.
But what the Lord is looking for
is a heart that truly loves Him
and longs for Him.
Perhaps today we can ask ourselves:
If there were no other blessings,
and I had only Jesus,
would He be enough for me?
The heart of the Bridegroom says:
“I long to be with you.”
And the Bride responds:
“Lord, I long for You too.”
May our hearts return once again
to this simple and pure love.
May we seek not only His hand,
but His face;
may we love not only what He gives,
but the One who gives us everything.
For He is the Bridegroom,
and the Bride’s greatest joy
is simply to be with her Bridegroom.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
thank You for loving us
and for desiring us to draw near to You.
Cause my heart to long for You again.
Do not let the world, busyness,
or even ministry
take Your place in my heart.
Let what I desire
be not only the blessings You give,
but You Yourself.
Lord, I love You.
I long for You.
May my heart belong to You alone.
Amen.
