🌿 Title: Are You Waiting on God, or Waiting on the Outcome?

📖 Today’s Scripture
👉 Jonah 4:5
“So Jonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city. There he made himself a shelter and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city.”
✨ Devotional Reflection
Jonah left the city—not because it was over, but because he was still waiting. What was he waiting for? Not for God’s heart, but to see if things would turn out the way he expected.
He built a shelter for himself—not to draw near to God, but to sit comfortably and watch. He chose to stay outside, keeping a distance, sitting in the shade while observing, as if saying, “Let me see how this ends first.”
But God was already doing something—He was showing mercy. Nineveh was repenting, and God’s heart was turning toward grace. Yet Jonah was not in it. He did not enter God’s heart; he simply stood aside and watched.
Sometimes we do the same. When God blesses someone we don’t understand, or shows mercy to someone we feel doesn’t deserve it, we don’t leave God—but we quietly step aside. Not opposing, not agreeing—just watching, to see if God might change His mind.
But God is not asking about the outcome—He is asking about your position. Are you in His heart, or in your own judgment?
🌿 Today’s Prayer
Lord, when Your ways do not align with my understanding, do not let me step back and watch from a distance. Draw my heart back into Yours. Help me not just look at outcomes, but to see people as You do. Let me not sit under my own shelter, but stand within Your mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
