The Will of God in the Wilderness
25 May 2026 Devotion

Numbers 9:23
“At the LORD’s command they encamped, and at the LORD’s command they set out; they obeyed the LORD’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses.”

The Book of Numbers may seem like a book about counting people, recording journeys, and listing regulations. But beneath it all, it speaks deeply about one thing: how to walk in the will of God.

The Israelites did not decide for themselves when to move or when to stop. When the cloud stayed, they stayed. When the cloud moved, they moved.

Sometimes they stayed for a day. Sometimes for a month. Sometimes even longer.

The issue was never speed—but obedience.

Many times, we want God to reveal the full plan, but often He only gives us the next step.

He is not asking us to control the map, but to trust the One who leads.

Numbers also shows us that fear can cause people to miss God’s will.

Twelve spies saw the same promised land. Ten saw giants. Two saw God.

Same circumstances, different perspective.

Sometimes it is not that God is not leading—it is that fear keeps us from moving forward.

The wilderness also exposes complaining, impatience, and unbelief. Many times, we struggle to hear God not because He is silent, but because our hearts are too noisy.

Yet thank God—even when people fail, His plans continue.

One generation fell, but God still led the next generation into the promise.

This reminds us: God’s will is not merely about arriving at a destination, but learning to walk with Him along the journey.

Today, perhaps you are in a wilderness season. The road ahead is unclear, and the answers have not yet come.

Do not rush.

If the cloud has not moved, wait quietly. If the cloud is moving, follow courageously.

Because the will of God is not just the destination—it is His presence with you every step of the way.
