Renewal, Setting Out, Co-Laborers
Daily Devotion – May 26, 2026

Deuteronomy 1:9–13
“At that time I said to you, ‘I am not able to bear the burden of you by myself. … Choose wise, understanding, and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will appoint them as your leaders.’”

Deuteronomy is a book about renewal.

This generation of Israelites was no longer the generation that came out of Egypt, but a new generation preparing to enter the Promised Land. Through Moses, God spoke to them again, reminded them again of His heart, and prepared them again for a new season.

So renewal is not merely changing environments or starting a new chapter—it is allowing God to realign our mindset, our perspective, and the way we do things.

Moses says something very honest here:

“I am not able to bear the burden by myself.”

These words were not a sign of failure or weakness, but of maturity.

Sometimes we think being spiritual means carrying everything ourselves, enduring everything ourselves, solving everything ourselves—as if the more we can handle alone, the stronger we are.

But Moses understood that God’s work was never meant to be accomplished by one person alone.

Leading people, handling problems, and carrying responsibility are not burdens one person can sustain indefinitely.

So God led Moses to appoint leaders—to share the burden, to work together, to serve alongside one another.

This is co-laboring.

Many times, we want to enter a new season, yet we still carry old habits—doing everything ourselves, carrying pressure alone, swallowing our exhaustion in silence.

But true renewal may not mean trying harder.
It may mean learning a new way.

From “I’ll do it myself” to “Let’s do this together.”

The phrase “setting out at dawn” (明发) carries the sense of rising early and moving forward.

Renewal is not meant to remain only in moments of inspiration, receiving, or ideas. It is a response to God—a willingness to rise again and move forward.

God renews us not so we can remain trapped in old patterns, but so we can step into a new pace with Him.

One person may move quickly,
but a team of co-laborers can go much farther.

Renewal is a heart being realigned.
Setting out is rising to move forward again.
Co-laboring is fulfilling the mission together.

Prayer:
Lord, renew my heart.
If I am still living with old mindsets, old habits, or old exhaustion, help me change.
If I am used to carrying everything alone, teach me humility and teach me how to labor with others.
May I not only be moved emotionally, but truly respond to You and rise again to move forward.
Lead us to work together and faithfully complete the path You have entrusted to us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
