Faith While Waiting

May 30, 2026 Devotional

【1 Samuel 13:8-10】

This morning, I saw a scene:

I was waiting for my uncle somewhere,
and I waited for a long time,
but he never showed up.

This scene reminded me of Saul’s experience of waiting for Samuel in 1 Samuel 13:8-10.

Saul waited seven days according to the time Samuel had appointed.

But as the days passed,
Samuel still had not arrived.

Not only that,
the people began to scatter,
and the situation became increasingly tense.

In the midst of such waiting,
Saul became anxious.

So he decided not to wait any longer
and offered the burnt offering himself.

However, the Bible tells us:

“As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, Samuel arrived.”

The issue was not that Samuel would not come,

but whether Saul could continue to wait.

Many times,
we are just like Saul.

At first, we are willing to wait
and willing to believe.

But when the waiting drags on,
things do not unfold as we expected,
and the answer does not come,

our hearts begin to grow uneasy.

We start trying to solve things ourselves,
take action ourselves,
and take control ourselves.

Yet God often uses waiting to shape our faith.

He not only cares about the outcome,
but also about whether we are willing to trust His timing.

Sometimes,
we think God is late.

But when we look back,

we discover that God has never been late.

He is simply teaching us
to keep believing when we cannot see,
and to keep waiting when there are no answers.

Because God’s timing
is always the best timing.

Prayer:

Lord, when I become anxious in times of waiting, please help me to be still and trust in You. Do not let me lose faith because of the pressures before me, nor run ahead of You. Help me believe that You are never late and that Your timing is always best. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
