Dalet
Turn Yourself Around and Receive a New Name
Devotional – August 2, 2026
Scripture
Judges 7:13–14
When Gideon arrived, he heard a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, “Behold, I dreamed a dream, and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian and came to the tent and struck it so that it fell and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.” And his companion answered, “This is no other than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. God has given into his hand Midian and all the camp.”

Devotional Reflection
There was once a businessman whose surname was Li. For many years he worked hard to build his company, yet it never seemed to break through.
He labored diligently and prayed faithfully, asking God to open new opportunities. Still, time passed, and nothing seemed to change.
One night, he had a dream.
In the dream, a voice said to him:
“Turn your name around.”
When he awoke, he kept pondering those words but could not understand their meaning.
Several days later, as he looked at his name, Li, he imagined turning the letter L, and it reminded him of the Hebrew letter Dalet (ד).
The meaning of Dalet is “door 门.”
At that moment, he understood.
God was not asking him to change his name.
God was asking him to turn himself around.
For years he had depended on his own experience, abilities, and methods. But God was inviting him to lay those down and learn to trust Him with humility and obedience.
As he allowed God to transform his life, God gradually began opening new doors before him.
This reminds me of the dream Gideon overheard.
In the dream, an ordinary barley loaf rolled into the Midianite camp and overturned a tent. Immediately, the Midianite interpreted the dream:
“This is nothing less than the sword of Gideon… God has given Midian and the whole camp into his hand.”
At that moment, Gideon had not yet drawn a sword, and the battle had not even begun.
Yet in God’s eyes, the victory was already certain.
The “sword of Gideon” represented far more than a weapon. It symbolized the identity, faith, and calling that God had given him.
God often works in the same way with us.
He first transforms our lives, and then He opens new doors before us. As we surrender ourselves to Him, He gives us a new identity so that we no longer live under the shadow of past failures but move forward in His promises.
God does not want us to rely on our own name or reputation, but on the new identity He gives us.
When God transforms our lives, He opens His doors. And when we walk through the doors He opens, He also gives us fresh faith—just as He did for Gideon—so that we may become instruments of His victory.

Reflection
Am I still relying on my own abilities and experience?
Today, am I willing to let God transform my life, surrender my own ways, and receive the new identity, fresh faith, and renewed calling that He has prepared for me?

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You desire not only to change my circumstances but also to transform my life. Help me to lay down my pride and self-reliance, and to follow You with a humble and obedient heart.
Turn my life around. Open the doors You have prepared for me, and give me a new identity and fresh faith. Like Gideon, may I walk not by what I see, but by Your promises, becoming a useful instrument in Your hands.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.
Amen.
