有时上一代没有完成;
有时中间经历荒凉;
When the Baton Is Broken, God Connects It Again
7 October 2026 | Ruth 4:9–10
Ruth 4:9 — Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought from Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to Chilion and Mahlon.”
Naomi once said, “I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty.” (Ruth 1:21) Her husband had died, both her sons had died, and the family inheritance was in danger of being lost. It seemed as though the family line had come to an end.
From a human perspective, the baton had been broken.
But God’s story was not over.
In chapter 4, Boaz stood at the city gate and declared before the elders and the people, “You are witnesses this day…” He was not merely redeeming a piece of land; he was taking responsibility as a kinsman-redeemer. He then took Ruth as his wife so that the name of the deceased would continue.
What is remarkable is that God did not simply restore what had been lost. He brought this seemingly broken family line into a much greater story:
Ruth → Obed → Jesse → David.
And ultimately, this family line led to Jesus Christ. (Matthew 1:5–6)
This reminds us that God’s purposes and legacy are not ended by human failure, loss, or interruption.
Sometimes the previous generation did not finish the journey.
Sometimes there is a season of emptiness.
Sometimes it may even seem that there is no one left to carry the baton.
But God can raise up a “Boaz” to redeem what was lost, and He can raise up a “Ruth” who faithfully responds, reconnecting what seemed to have been broken.
So perhaps the most important question is not:
“Why was the previous baton dropped?”
But rather:
“When God places the baton in my hands again, am I willing to receive it and carry it forward?”
Today’s Reflection
Perhaps God is calling you to continue something that others were unable to finish. Do not assume that God’s plan has failed simply because there was an interruption along the way.
What looks like a broken link to us may simply be the beginning of the next baton in God’s hands.
God does not only restore what was lost;
He can take the baton that has been picked up again
and carry His purpose further than it has ever gone before.
