Praise in the Valley of Berakah
October 13, 2026
Scripture
“After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: ‘Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.’”
2 Chronicles 20:21
“On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berakah, where they praised the LORD. This is why it is called the Valley of Berakah to this day.”
2 Chronicles 20:26
Devotional Reflection
Second Chronicles chapter 20 presents a remarkable picture of faith. When Judah faced an enemy far stronger than themselves, Jehoshaphat did not rely on military strength. Instead, he led the people to seek the Lord wholeheartedly. As the singers marched ahead of the army, lifting their voices in praise, God Himself fought for His people, causing their enemies to turn against one another and ultimately destroying their forces.
What is especially meaningful is what happened after the battle. Rather than immediately returning home, the people gathered on the fourth day in a valley to praise the Lord. That place became known as the Valley of Berakah, meaning the “Valley of Praise” or “Valley of Blessing.” What could have been remembered as a place of death and fear became a place of worship and thanksgiving because of God’s deliverance.
This is often how God works in our lives. He not only delivers us from difficult circumstances but can also transform those very circumstances into testimonies of His grace. The situations that once brought us tears may one day become altars of thanksgiving. Our struggles and pain may eventually become stories that proclaim God’s faithfulness.
The Valley of Berakah reminds us that faith is not only about praising God before the battle but also about remembering to give thanks after experiencing His grace.
Many people cry out to God for help during difficult times, yet forget to thank Him when the victory comes. Those who truly know God remember not only their needs but also His goodness and faithfulness.
May each of us have our own “Valley of Berakah,” a place where we pause to count our blessings, remember how the Lord has led us, and offer Him heartfelt praise.
For every act of God’s deliverance deserves to become a song of thanksgiving.
Today’s Reflection
Is there a “Valley of Berakah” in your life—a place or season where God showed you His grace and brought you through difficult circumstances?
Do you take time to remember His goodness, count His blessings, and offer Him thanksgiving and praise?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God who fights for me and grants victory. Teach me to trust You in times of trouble, to praise You in the midst of battles, and never to forget Your goodness after experiencing Your deliverance.
May You transform every difficult season of my life into a “Valley of Berakah,” a testimony of Your grace, so that I may praise Your goodness and faithfulness all the days of my life.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
