Even the Strength of Lions Is Under God’s Sovereignty

Scripture: Job 38:39–40

“Do you hunt the prey for the lioness and satisfy the hunger of the lions when they crouch in their dens or lie in wait in a thicket?” (NIV)

Devotional Reflection

The lion symbolizes strength, majesty, and authority. It is known as the king of beasts. Yet, in the Book of Job, God reminds Job that even such a powerful creature cannot survive by its own strength alone. It still depends on God’s provision.

When Job was going through suffering and could not understand God’s ways, God did not directly explain the reasons for his suffering. Instead, through the wonders of creation, God revealed His wisdom, power, and sovereignty.

A lion may be strong, but it cannot control its tomorrow. Likewise, no matter how hard we strive, we cannot control everything in life.

True strength is not found in how powerful we are, but in how great the God we trust is.

If God cares for the lions in the wilderness, surely He knows the needs of His children. Even when we find ourselves in a season where no way forward seems visible, He remains in control.

Today’s Reflection

Do we often rely on our own strength, trying to take control of everything?

May we learn to trust God even when we do not understand, and to look to Him even in times of lack. For the same God who provides for the lions will also care for us according to His wisdom and perfect timing.

The lion has strength, but God is the source of all strength. The lion has majesty, but God is the Sovereign Lord over all creation.
