Removing the Heart of Stone, Receiving a New Heart

Date: 25 October 2026

Today’s Scripture | Ezekiel 36:26 (KJV)

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.”

Devotional Reflection

Why do our hearts become hardened?

Sometimes, it is because we have been hurt and are afraid to trust again. Sometimes, it is because of pride, making us unwilling to admit our mistakes. At other times, repeated disappointments gradually cause us to lose our love and compassion.

A heart of stone does not develop overnight. It slowly loses its tenderness through repeated rejection, bitterness, and self-protection.

The Bible tells us that Pharaoh witnessed God’s mighty power again and again, yet he continued to harden his heart and refused to obey. It was not because God had not spoken to him, but because his heart was unwilling to respond.

Today, we may also hear God’s Word yet stubbornly hold on to our own opinions. We know we should forgive, yet we refuse to let go. We understand that we need to turn back to God, yet we hesitate to take that first step.

However, God did not say, “You must soften your heart of stone by your own strength.”

Instead, He declared:

“I will take away the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

What a precious promise!

God does not merely want to change our behaviour; He desires to renew our entire lives. He wants to remove the hardness within us so that we can once again experience His love, hear His voice, and respond to others with compassion.

True renewal is not simply a change in our circumstances, but a transformation of our hearts by God.

Today’s Reflection

Have our hearts become hardened in certain areas of our lives?

Are there people we are unwilling to forgive? Words of correction we refuse to accept? Painful memories from the past that we still cannot let go of?

A heart of stone insists on its own way, but a heart of flesh is willing to surrender to God.

When we open our hearts to Him, He can turn hardness into tenderness, bitterness into forgiveness, and indifference into renewed love.

What God desires to restore is not merely the days we have lost, but also the heart we once had—a heart that loved Him and willingly responded to His voice.
