Faithful Until the End

Scripture
“I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.”
— 2 Thessalonians 3:17
When Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians, some people had falsely claimed to speak in his name, saying that the Day of the Lord had already come. As a result, some believers were misled, stopped working, and began living idle lives.
For this reason, Paul personally wrote the final greeting with his own hand as a mark of authenticity, assuring the church that the letter truly came from him and correcting the false teaching that had spread among them.
Imagine a company announcing that one day it will eventually close. Some employees might think, “Since the company is going to shut down anyway, why work so hard?” They become careless and waste their time. But faithful employees understand that as long as the company remains open, they are responsible for doing their work diligently and fulfilling their duties each day.
In the same way, Christ has promised that He will return. Yet this promise is never meant to make us neglect our responsibilities on earth. Instead, it calls us to live even more faithfully. Scripture never teaches that the hope of Christ’s return is an excuse to stop working. Rather, it encourages us to work quietly, do good diligently, and hold firmly to the truth until the day He comes.
True hope never leads to laziness, and genuine faith never causes us to abandon our responsibilities.
May we not slow down because Christ is coming soon. Instead, because we love Him, may we treasure each day God has given us and remain faithful in our families, our work, our service in the church, and the gospel entrusted to us—until the very end.
Reflection
Am I allowing the hope of Christ’s return to make me more faithful in fulfilling the responsibilities God has entrusted to me today?
