可以进入巴比伦,却不让巴比伦进入心里;
可以学习世界,却不被世界定义;

让我在世界中学习,却不被世界定义;

Learn from the World, but Don’t Let the World Define You

22 August 2026 | Devotional from the Book of Daniel

📖 Scripture

Daniel 1:3–4
“Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king’s service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.”

Daniel 1:17
“To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning…”

✦ Devotional Reflection

Nebuchadnezzar selected some of the finest young men of Judah.

They came from good backgrounds and were chosen for their appearance, learning, knowledge, and intelligence. They were then brought into the Babylonian palace to learn the language and literature of the Babylonians.

This was more than an education. It was an attempt to reshape their identity.

They were expected to learn Babylon’s language, eat the king’s food, receive new names, and eventually serve in the royal court.

Babylon sought to change their language, lifestyle, and even their sense of identity.

Yet Daniel shows us something powerful:

He could learn the knowledge of Babylon without allowing Babylon to enter his heart.

His name could be changed.
His environment could be changed.
What he studied could be changed.
But he still knew whom he belonged to.

Even more interestingly, Daniel 1:4 tells us that they were already gifted in learning, knowledge, and understanding. Yet in verse 17 we read:

“God gave them knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning.”

Human ability provided a foundation,
but God-given wisdom enabled them to excel.

Faith, therefore, does not mean rejecting knowledge. It means keeping our core identity while learning, growing, and living within different cultures and environments.

We can enter Babylon without allowing Babylon to enter our hearts.
We can learn from the world without letting the world define us.
We can serve in the king’s palace while still knowing whom we truly belong to.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, give me the wisdom and steadfastness of Daniel. Help me to learn and grow, and to pursue excellence wherever you place me. Above all, guard my heart so that no matter what culture or environment surrounds me, I will never lose my identity in you.

Let me learn from the world without being defined by it.
Let me excel among others while giving all the glory to you.

Amen.
