Standing Before God, Faithful in What He Entrusts to Us

November 6, 2026 | Friday

Today’s Scripture | Zechariah 3:7

“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘If you walk in my ways and keep my commands, you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you access among those standing here.’”

Devotional

The final words of this verse invite us to pause. “I will give you access among those standing here.” In the vision, “those standing here” are the heavenly attendants who serve in God’s presence. At first, Joshua the high priest stood there in filthy clothes while Satan accused him. Now God takes away his sin, clothes him in clean garments, and promises him access among those attendants. The very place where Joshua once stood accused is now the place where he is welcomed into God’s presence.

There is a clear order to what God says. He first takes away Joshua’s sin and then says, “If you walk in my ways and keep my commands…” Joshua has already received forgiveness, and God makes clear what is expected of him in the work that follows. As he cares for God’s house, he is to do so according to God’s will. The way Joshua listens to and obeys God will also shape how he leads the people in worship.

When we pray for others, lead a small group, or care for people God has entrusted to us, it is easy to start by thinking about what needs to be done. This verse brings us back to a more basic question. Before I think about what others should do, have I taken time to listen to what God is saying to me? Sometimes the first step God asks me to take is to listen to someone I have overlooked or to acknowledge something I have been avoiding.

Today’s Reflection

As I think about the people and responsibilities God has entrusted to me, where do I already know what he wants me to do and still need to act on it?

Prayer

Lord, thank you for forgiving me and welcoming me into your presence. Help me pause often as I serve so I can listen to you. Teach me to care for the people you have entrusted to me in a way that pleases you and to be faithful in the work you have given me. Amen.
