By His Blood, a Covenant of Grace

9 November 2026 | Monday

Today’s Scripture | Mark 14:24

“He said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.’”

Devotion

During the Last Supper, Jesus took the cup and told His disciples, “This is my blood of the covenant.” He knew full well that the cross lay ahead of Him, yet He willingly gave His life for humanity. This covenant reveals the depth of God’s love and reminds us that the grace of forgiveness was made possible through the sacrifice of Jesus’ own life.

What is especially moving is that the disciples sitting at the table with Him were not people of unwavering faith or without weakness. Soon, they would be overcome by fear and scatter, and Peter would even deny Him three times. Jesus knew all of this, yet He still spoke to them of His covenant promise. His faithfulness became the hope that would enable those who had fallen to return to Him.

Today, we too may feel ashamed of our failures or hesitate to draw near to God because our prayer life has grown cold. This verse reminds us that our confidence in approaching God rests on the blood Jesus has already shed for us. We can honestly confess our sins and return to Him in faith. Having received His grace, we can also learn to respond to Him with faithfulness.

Whenever we partake of Holy Communion, we remember once again that the Lord loves us and gave Himself for us. May this love soften our hearts, deepen our appreciation of our relationship with God, and inspire us to forgive and accept those around us.

Today’s Reflection

Have I allowed my weaknesses to distance me from God? How can I respond in faith today to the covenant love of the Lord?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for shedding Your blood and giving Your life for us, so that we may receive forgiveness and be reconciled to God. When I am weak and fall short, help me to confess my sins honestly and return to Your presence. May Your covenant love strengthen my faith, teach me to treasure Your grace, and enable me to follow You faithfully in my daily life. Help me also to treat others with kindness and compassion.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
