【创世记 2:7】
“耶和华神用地上的尘土造人，将生气吹在他鼻孔里，他就成了有灵的活人，名叫亚当。”

创世记第二章让我们看见人的起源，也让我们认识自己的身份。

神先用地上的尘土造人。尘土提醒我们，人本身是有限、脆弱、谦卑的。无论人的知识、财富、地位或能力有多高，若没有神，我们仍不过是尘土。正如亚伯拉罕说：“我虽然是灰尘，还敢对主说话。”（创18:27）

然而，人的尊贵不在于尘土，而在于神亲自俯身，将生命的气息吹进人的鼻孔。这里的“生气”（希伯来文 neshamah）不仅指肉体的呼吸，更代表神所赐的生命，使人成为能够认识神、敬拜神、与神建立关系的活人。

这也是人与其他受造物的重要区别。神创造万物是借着祂的话语，但创造人时，却特别亲手塑造，并亲自吹入生命。这幅画面充满了神的慈爱、亲密与尊荣。

今天，我们仍然需要神不断向我们吹气。身体需要呼吸空气，属灵生命更需要圣灵的更新。当我们远离神的话语、停止祷告时，灵里就会渐渐枯干；但当我们来到神面前，祂的话和圣灵就再次使我们得着力量与生命。

创世记也预表了新约。复活后的耶稣向门徒吹一口气，说：“你们受圣灵。”（约20:22）起初神吹入生命，使人成为活人；如今基督吹入圣灵，使信的人得着新的生命，成为新造的人。

因此，我们既要记得自己的谦卑——本是尘土；也要记得自己的尊贵——是神按祂的形象所造，并承载着祂所赐的生命气息。

愿我们每天都活在神的同在中，不靠自己的能力，而是靠着祂所赐的生命与圣灵，活出荣耀祂的生命。

默想

1. 我是否常常记得，自己的一切生命、恩赐和能力都来自神？
2. 我的属灵生命今天是否仍然充满神所赐的新鲜气息，还是已经渐渐枯干？
3. 我今天可以如何借着读经、祷告和顺服圣灵，让神的生命更多流露在我的生活中？

祷告：

亲爱的天父，感谢你用尘土造我，又将生命的气息赐给我，使我成为有灵的活人。帮助我常存谦卑，记得一切都是你的恩典；也帮助我珍惜你所赐的新生命，每天亲近你，领受圣灵的更新。愿你的生命充满我，使我活出你的形象，荣耀你的名。奉主耶稣基督的名祷告，阿们。

From Dust to Life — The Breath Given by God

Scripture

Genesis 2:7

“Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7)

Devotional Reflection

Genesis chapter 2 reveals not only the origin of humanity but also our true identity.

God first formed man from the dust of the ground. Dust reminds us that, in ourselves, we are finite, fragile, and humble. No matter how much knowledge, wealth, status, or ability we possess, apart from God we are still but dust. As Abraham said, “Though I am nothing but dust and ashes, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord.” (Genesis 18:27)

Yet our dignity does not come from the dust, but from the fact that God Himself stooped down and breathed the breath of life into man’s nostrils. The Hebrew word neshamah (“breath”) refers not merely to physical breathing but also to the life that comes from God, enabling us to know Him, worship Him, and live in relationship with Him.

This is one of the greatest distinctions between humanity and the rest of creation. God created all things by His spoken word, but when He created mankind, He personally formed him with His hands and breathed life into him. This beautiful picture reflects God’s love, intimacy, and the honor He has bestowed upon us.

Today, we still need God to continually breathe into us. Just as our bodies need air to survive, our spiritual lives need the continual renewal of the Holy Spirit. When we drift away from God’s Word and neglect prayer, our spirits gradually become dry. But when we come into God’s presence, His Word and His Spirit renew us with fresh strength and life.

Genesis also foreshadows the New Testament. After His resurrection, Jesus breathed on His disciples and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:22) In the beginning, God breathed life into humanity, making man a living being. Through Christ, He now breathes the Holy Spirit into believers, giving them new life and making them a new creation.

Therefore, let us always remember both our humility—we are made from dust—and our dignity—we are created in God’s image and entrusted with His very breath of life.

May we live each day in God’s presence, relying not on our own strength but on the life and power of the Holy Spirit, so that our lives may bring glory to Him.

Reflection

1. Do I continually remember that my life, gifts, and abilities all come from God?
2. Is my spiritual life still filled with the fresh breath of God today, or has it gradually become dry?
3. How can I allow God’s life to flow more fully through me today by reading His Word, praying, and walking in obedience to the Holy Spirit?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for forming me from the dust of the earth and breathing into me the breath of life, making me a living being. Help me to remain humble, remembering that everything I have is by Your grace. Teach me to treasure the new life You have given me by drawing near to You each day and receiving the continual renewal of the Holy Spirit. May Your life fill me so that I may reflect Your image and bring glory to Your name. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
