当我读到「永远的盐约」，心中想到一个数字——1819。

1819年，是现代新加坡历史的重要起点。一个约的建立，开启了一座城市新的篇章，也成为后来发展的基础。

圣经中的「盐约」，却比地上的任何约更深、更稳固。

盐象征防腐、不变与持久，因此神称祂与百姓所立的是永远的盐约。这意味着，神的信实不会腐坏，祂的应许不会失效，祂的慈爱不会因时间而改变。

1819提醒我们，一个国家可以因着立约而兴起；而一个人的生命，更可以因着神的约而被建立。

世界不断改变，时代不断更迭，地上的制度、环境和关系都会改变，唯有神的约永远长存。

今天，我们生活在1819所开启的新加坡，但我们真正安稳的根基，不是历史，不是制度，也不是财富，而是那位永不改变、守约施慈爱的主。

愿我们像盐一样，在这个世代活出忠心、圣洁与信实，也坚定相信神所立的约，直到永远。

我的人生，是建立在会改变的世界，还是建立在神永不改变的盐约上？

祷告

主啊，感谢你与我所立的是永远的盐约。你的应许永不改变，你的信实永不废弃。求你帮助我，无论环境如何变化，都坚定信靠你的约，也使我的生命如盐一般，在这个世代活出忠心、带来祝福，荣耀你的名。阿们。

“All the holy offerings that the Israelites present to the LORD I give to you and your sons and daughters as your perpetual share. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD for both you and your offspring.”

Devotional Reflection

As I read the phrase “an everlasting covenant of salt,” one number came to mind—1819.

The year 1819 marked the beginning of modern Singapore’s history. A covenant established at that time opened a new chapter for the nation and laid the foundation for its future development.

Yet the covenant of salt in Scripture is far deeper and far more enduring than any covenant made on earth.

Salt symbolizes preservation, permanence, and faithfulness. That is why God describes His covenant with His people as an everlasting covenant of salt. His faithfulness never decays, His promises never fail, and His steadfast love is never altered by time.

1819 reminds us that a nation can be established through a covenant, but an individual’s life can be firmly established through God’s covenant.

The world is constantly changing. Generations rise and fall. Systems, circumstances, and relationships all pass away. But God’s covenant remains forever.

Today, we live in the Singapore that began in 1819, yet the true foundation of our security is not history, government, or wealth. It is the Lord who never changes—the One who faithfully keeps His covenant and steadfast love.

May we, like salt, live with faithfulness, holiness, and integrity in this generation, trusting firmly in God’s everlasting covenant until the very end.

Is my life built upon a world that is constantly changing, or upon God’s unchanging covenant of salt?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for making with me an everlasting covenant of salt. Your promises never change, Your faithfulness never fails, and Your love endures forever. Help me to trust in Your covenant regardless of changing circumstances. May my life be like salt in this generation—faithful, preserving what is good, and bringing blessing to others for the glory of Your name. Amen.
