The Five Offerings—The Way into God’s Presence

Devotion – July 29, 2026

Scripture:

Leviticus 1:2
“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the LORD, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock.’”

Leviticus 7:37
“These, then, are the regulations for the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, and the fellowship offering.”

Devotional Reflection

The book of Leviticus does not begin with laws or commandments. Instead, it begins with the five offerings. This reminds us that God’s greatest desire is not merely that we obey Him, but that we live in fellowship with Him.

These five offerings form a pathway into God’s presence, and each points prophetically to the complete work of Jesus Christ.

  1. The Burnt Offering — A Life Fully Surrendered

The burnt offering was entirely consumed on the altar, symbolizing complete dedication to God.

Today, God is not simply seeking our time, money, or service. He desires our hearts. True worship begins when we can sincerely say, “Lord, my life belongs to You.”

  1. The Grain Offering — A Holy Daily Life

Unlike the other offerings, the grain offering involved no shedding of blood. It represented the dedication of one’s daily life and labor to God.

The fine flour, oil, frankincense, and salt all point to a life that is pure, Spirit-filled, fragrant before God, and faithful to His covenant.

Worship is not confined to a church service—it is expressed through the way we live each day.

  1. The Fellowship Offering — Communion with God

The fellowship offering was a shared meal between God, the priests, and the worshiper.

It reminds us that salvation is more than the forgiveness of sins. Through Christ, we are invited into a close and joyful relationship with God, enjoying His presence and peace.

  1. The Sin Offering — Cleansing from Sin

Sin not only brings guilt but also defiles our relationship with God. The sin offering teaches that cleansing requires the shedding of blood.

Jesus offered Himself once for all, so that we may now come confidently into God’s presence.

  1. The Guilt Offering — Restoring What Was Broken

The guilt offering dealt with specific wrongs committed against God or other people.

It required not only a sacrifice but also restitution—returning what had been lost and adding an extra one-fifth.

True repentance is more than asking for forgiveness. It also seeks to restore relationships and make things right whenever possible.

Together, the five offerings present a beautiful picture of the believer’s spiritual journey:

  • Burnt Offering — Surrender your whole life.
  • Grain Offering — Dedicate your daily living.
  • Fellowship Offering — Enjoy communion with God.
  • Sin Offering — Receive cleansing from sin.
  • Guilt Offering — Restore broken relationships.

Ultimately, every one of these offerings points to Jesus Christ. He is the perfect sacrifice who fulfilled them all. Because of His once-for-all offering, we no longer bring animal sacrifices. Instead, we are invited to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, living lives that are holy, pleasing to God, and filled with joyful fellowship in His presence.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your beautiful plan of redemption through the five offerings in Leviticus. Thank You that Jesus became the perfect sacrifice, opening the way for me to come boldly into Your presence. Help me to surrender my life to You each day, to live a holy life, to enjoy deep fellowship with You, and to be willing to repent and restore relationships whenever I have caused hurt. May my life become a pleasing offering that brings glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
