可以忙,却不要被忙碌捆绑;
可以拥有,却不要被拥有的东西占有;

工作太忙,渐渐没有时间亲近神;
追求更好的生活,渐渐把安全感放在金钱上;

身在世界,却不被世界缠住;
经历困难,却不忘记使命;

Unentangled, Living to Please the One Who Called Me

September 19, 2026

Scripture | 2 Timothy 2:3–4

“Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.”

Devotional

Paul compares those who follow Jesus to soldiers of Christ.

What matters most in a good soldier is not only courage, but single-minded devotion—knowing whom he belongs to and what he is fighting for.

Paul says that a soldier does not “get entangled in civilian affairs.”

This does not mean that we neglect our work, family, or responsibilities. Rather, it reminds us:

We can be busy without being bound by busyness.
We can possess things without letting our possessions possess us.
We can live in the world without allowing the world to occupy our hearts.

Sometimes, what draws us away from God is not necessarily sin, but ordinary things that gradually take first place in our hearts.

Work becomes so demanding that we slowly lose time with God.
The pursuit of a better life causes us to place our security in money.
Concern about what others think makes us forget whose approval truly matters.

So the key question is not simply, “What am I doing?” but:

“What is occupying my heart?”

Paul also tells Timothy, “Join with me in suffering.”

Following the Lord does not mean the road will always be easy. True faith remains faithful even when there is a price to pay and continues to follow God’s calling even when circumstances are difficult.

A soldier has one clear desire:

To please the one who enlisted him.

In the end, success in life is not measured by how much we possess or achieve, but whether we can say:

I have faithfully walked the path the Lord entrusted to me.

Today’s Reflection

What is entangling my heart today?

Is it work, money, worry, the opinions of others, or my own plans?

Do not let what is secondary take the place of what matters most.

Live in the world, but do not be entangled by it.
Face difficulties, but do not forget your mission.
Live for one purpose—to please the Lord.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, give me a single-minded heart that is not entangled by the busyness, worries, and temptations of this world.

Whether in good times or difficult ones, help me remember that I belong to You and faithfully walk the path You have entrusted to me.

May I live not for the praise of people, but for Your pleasure.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
