He Will Surely Do It

Scripture | 1 Thessalonians 5:23–24
“May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.”
Devotional
These two verses give us tremendous comfort: the transformation of our lives and our journey toward holiness do not depend on our efforts alone. God Himself is at work within us.
Paul says, “May the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through.” Sanctification is not about changing only one part of our lives. God desires to touch our whole being—our spirit, soul and body.
Our spirit needs to remain close to God. Our soul—our thoughts, emotions and will—needs to be continually renewed. Our body and the way we live each day also need to be set apart for Him. God does not want only the version of us that worships Him on Sundays; He desires our entire lives to belong to Him.
Yet when we see our own weaknesses, it is easy to wonder, “Can I really make it to the end? Can I truly become the person God wants me to be?”
Verse 24 gives us the answer:
“The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.”
Our hope is not built on saying, “I can definitely do this.” Our hope is built on this truth: “He is faithful.”
He is the One who calls us, and He is the One who keeps us. He began the work, and He will continue until it is complete. We certainly need to respond, obey and pursue Him, but ultimately, it is God who continually works within us and causes our lives to bear fruit.
Sometimes we see only our present condition, but God sees the life He is shaping us to become. We see the process; God sees the finished work.
So today, do not be discouraged because you are not yet perfect. Continue placing your life in His hands and allow Him to cleanse, prune, heal and renew you.
Since He has called you, He will not abandon halfway the work He has begun in you.
Reflection for Today
Are there areas of my life where I have become discouraged because change seems too slow?
Today, I choose to believe again:
My confidence is not based on my own perfection, but on God’s faithfulness.
The One who calls me is faithful, and He will surely do it.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for personally calling me and for continually working in my life. May my spirit, soul and body be sanctified and set apart completely for You.
When I see my weaknesses and shortcomings, help me not to become discouraged, but to fix my eyes on Your faithfulness. Continue to renew my mind, purify my heart, guide my steps and preserve me until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I believe that the work You have begun, You will faithfully bring to completion.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
